ACTIVITIES AT AMAZIAN MOUNTAIN RIVER LODGE AND IN THE SOUTHERN DRAKENSBERG

Drakensber Mountains and Amazian Mountain River Lodge

Whatever your needs might be, you will enjoy your stay at Amazian Mountain River Lodge and the many activities in and around Underberg in the Southern Drakensberg mountains will ensure that your holiday will be a once in a lifetime experience. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by the Amazian magic!

You will need, at the very least, three nights in our paradise to make sure that you do as many as possible of the following: Enjoy a spectacular view whilst having a de-stress aromatherapy, hot stone or crystal stone massage treatment. Sip champagne in our hot water Onsens spa/Jacuzzi. Work out in our open air gym. Lounge at our pool or detoxify in our steam room.

Refresh your mind even further by going for a beautiful scenic walk to the gorge or through Amazian Mountain River Lodge's labyrinth. Go for a romantic quad bike picnic or meet our resident otter family and monitor lizards while rowing up the river on our fisherman boat. For the avid fly fisherman, try your hand at catching wild rainbow or brown trout on the 3,5km of pristine river frontage.

Test the river strength and rapids with our comfortable tubes on a mild 1 to 1/2 hr journey - fun for all ages, or you can try the more adventurous challenge of 4 hrs for the less faint-hearted.

Book an hour's archery lesson in Robin Hood's little forest and get the adrenalin rush of hitting a bull’s eye!

Recharge and explore the beautiful mountain scenery on horseback or go on a guided Bushman's rock art hike into the world heritage site. Do some birding, or a fauna and flora tour or explore the legendary Sani's Pass.

The Sani Pass Tour is a full day excursion and perhaps the best 4x4 experience in South Africa. Don’t forget your passport as you will cross the border into the Kingdom of Lesotho. The road up the mountain is rough and steep and the views are breathtakingly beautiful. Lunch will be at the highest pub in Africa where you can also enjoy a Maluti beer. This is certainly one of Southern Africa’s must do experiences.  Put it on your bucket list today!

For the avid birdwatcher, over 300 bird species are found in the area including the Black Stork, Bald Ibis, Bearded and Cape Vultures, Black Eagle, Jackal Buzzard, Black Harrier, Orange Breasted Rockjumper, Drakensberg Siskin, the Blue, Crowned and Wattled Crane and Denham's Bustard.
